Harte Riffs treffen auf Ambient, wunderschöne Melodien treffen auf Doom-Passagen, kurz: alles, was gefällt, ist erlaubt bei Pet Slimmers Of The Year. Auf ihrer selbstbetitelten EP bieten die drei Bandmitglieder (Gowan, Vinten, McKenna) aus Großbritannien Post-Metal, wie er, zu mindest mir, gefällt... nicht zu puristisch mit ganz viel Abwechslung. Aber das ist wohl auch zu erwarten bei einer Band, die sowohl Mono, als auch Meshuggah zu ihren Einflüssen zählt.
Ein bissschen Post-Rock hier (wie zum Beginn von World Without Stars), ein bisschen Doom da (wie zum Beginn vom Opener A Letter To His Father) und dazwischen immer wieder diese Riffgewitter, die den vorher sorgfältig konstruierten Spannungbogen dann zum bersten bringen... und genau hier würde ich mir persönlich wünschen, dass sie öfters dem Chaos freien lauf lassen, so wie es mir bei den meisten Post Metal-/Post Rock-Outputs geht.
Pet Slimmers Of The Year erfinden das Rad zwar nicht neu, liefern aber eine solide EP ab, die den Fans der oben genannten Genres bestimmt gefallen und vielleicht sogar ein paar Neulinge zum eingeschworenen Kreis der Post-Metaller hinzufügen wird.

On said release, the three guys from Great Britain (Gowan, Vinten, McKenna) play that kind of post metal, that at least I like very much... not too puristic with a broad variety in styles. But what else would you expect when a band cites both Mono and Meshuggah as influences?
A little bit of post rock here (like in the beginning of World Without Stars), a little bit of doom there (like in the beginning of the opener called A Letter To His Father) with that beloved apocalypse in the middle... but if I had any say in this, that apocalypse would be more brutal and chaotic. That's what I don't like about most of the puristic post rock-/post metal-outputs, but then again, what do I know.
What Pet Slimmers Of The Year deliver on this EP is nothing new, but it is still very good and exciting. Most people who are into post metal will love this record and maybe, some people who have never heard of that genre will learn to love this beautiful music... through this EP.
