Das mir vorliegende Debut-Album Desiderata von Lost Reverie, einer Ein-Mann-Band aus Mexiko, verbindet gekonnt progressiven Rock/Metal mit Ambient und fügt dann noch klassische Elemente hinzu.
Der Longplayer beginnt mit relaxtem Soundgewaber, zu dem sich dann Schlagzeug, Bass und Gitarre gesellen... das Klavier bleibt noch dezent im Hintergrund, während ganz langsam Spannung aufgebaut wird, bis ein tolles Gitarrenriff die Atmospäre durchbricht und dem Hörer klar wird, was in der nächsten knappen Stunde auf ihn zukommt. Die Gitarren, die Anfangs noch das Album dominieren, wechseln sich immer wieder und öfter ab mit dem Klavier, und dem Synthesizer, was mir persönlich sehr gut gefällt. Lost Reveries Musik ist sehr eigenständig, inspiriert und niemals langweilig, vor allem immer dann, wenn das Klavier den Ton angibt.
Die meisten der 8 Songs sind im Mid-Tempo Bereich angesiedelt... da die Songstrukturen jedoch sehr dynamisch sind, kann sich das im Laufe eines Tracks mehrmals ändern. Stimmungsmäßig wirken alle Songs relativ melancholisch, doch manchmal scheinen durch den Schleier der Melancholie kleine Strahlen an Hoffnung und Frohsinn.
Wer progressiven Metal/Rock mag, sollte mal reinhören und auch wenn nicht sollte man diesem ambitionierten Projekt auf jeden Fall eine Chance geben. Für mich ist dieses Album das perfekte Album für diesen wirklich tristen Winter.
The debut LP I'm listening to right now is called Desiderata and is performed by Lost Reverie, a one man band from Mexico, which strives to combine progressive rock/metal with ambient and add a little bit of classic... successfully, I might add.
The album starts with some soundscapes to which Juan Herrera adds drums, bass and guitar, whereas the piano is confined to the background for now. The slowly built tension is then destroyed by an amazing riff and one realizes what'll happen in the next hour. The guitars, while dominating the beginning of this record are slowly exchanged by piano and synths, which is a fantastic thing if you ask me. Lost Reverie's music can't really be compared with anything else I know, especially, when the piano leads the way.
Most of these 8 songs are mid-tempo songs... but since these songs have a very dynamic structure this can change from one minute to another. The whole record sonds very melancholic and nostalgic, but somtimes you can hear hope and joy taking over... those are the most beautiful moments.
Everybody who likes prog-rock/metal should definitivly give this a spin, and if you don't like that kind of music, do it anyway, it's totally worth it. It's the perfect record for one of those dark and depressing winter days.
