Glass America - Redivivus (2009)

Hallelujah.

Sie tragen Red Sox Pullis, nehmen zwischen Gerümpel in Socken auf und machen dabei ständig allerlei Scherze und Blödsinn. Wenn man sich die Studio-Videos auf Glass Americas Myspage Seite anschaut, vermutet man vorerst, dass man es hier mit mit einer jungen Band zu tun hat, die keinen Schimmer hat, was sie da eigentlich tut. Wehe aber, man legt dann die CD ein.

Die vier Jungs aus Boston hüllen den Hörer im ersten Track ihres Debut Albums Redivivus in einen sanften nebelverhangenen Ambientsong, um kurz darauf Akustische Gitarren und außergewöhnliche Melodien erklingen zu lassen. Das wahnsinnig toll aufgenommene Schlagzeug kann sich fortan bestens entfalten, baut sich dabei im dritten Lied, zusammen mit dem Glockenspiel, zu einer rythmischen Sensation auf, als plötzlich Vocals aus den Boxen dringen. Unglaublich schöner, beinahe Immanu El-mässiger Gesang, bei dem der Text Progamm ist: "We sing Hallelujah!"

Dass Glass America möglicherweise die Newcomer des Jahres 2009 sind, wird im kürzeren nächsten Stück If I forget you, O Jerusalem mit beeindruckendem Gitarrenspiel zelebriert, das in einem tollen Crescendo endet, sodass das darauffolgende Klavier um so fragiler erklingen kann. Sobald aber im sechsten Song erneut dieser traumhafte Gesang beginnt, vermag es kein Piano mehr, Gefühle schöner zu vermitteln. Schade, dass Track 7, Sinai, dagegen etwas austauschbar und träge wirkt, doch im von akustischen Gitarren getragenen Closer kehrt das Vocal-Thema zurück, das im dritten Lied eingeführt wurde, um den abschließenden Eindruck der Band einen ganz besonderen sein zu lassen.

Schlappe 4 Hörer hat die Band bei LastFm - Unverständlich und kaum zu glauben. Musik wie diese hat es verdient, soviele Menschen als möglich zu erreichen und diese genauso zu berühren, wie sie es mit mir gemacht hat. Danke, Glass America.

They're wearing Red Sox pullovers, record their music among lumber, wearing socks and no shoes - and they're joking around endlessly. When looking at the studio-footage on Glass America's Myspace site, you might guess that you're dealing with a young band that has no real clue what they're doing. But woe betide, when putting the CD into the player.

On the first track of their debut album Redivivus, the four guys from Bosten coat the listener into a gentle, nebulous ambient-track, just to pick up acoustic guitars and extraordinary melodies shortly afterwards. The incredibly recorded drum-set can then unfold itself optimally, joining the glockenspiel to build up to a rythm-sensation in the third track, when suddenly vocals surface. Incredibly beautiful, almost Immanu El-like vocals, where the lyrics say it all: "We sing Hallelujah!"

In If I forget you, O Jerusalem, the shorter track that follows, Glass America celebrate that they might be 2009's best newcomers with impressive guitar playing, ending in an awesome crescendo, so that the subsequent piano can sound even more fragile. But once these dreamy vocals reappear in the sixth song, no piano can convey feelings more beautifully. What a pity that track 7, Sinai, sounds a little exchangeable and dull, but when the vocal-theme, established in the third track comes back in the acoustic guitar-dominated closer, the final impression of the band is a very special one.

It is incomprehensible and unbelievable that the band has lousy 4 listeners on LastFM. Music like this deserves to reach as many people as possible, and touch them the same way like it did with me. Thank you, Glass America.
