Masske - Paper Robots (EP) (2009)

Masske, erneut eine experimentelle Band gefunden auf WiseOwlRecords, ist ein experimentell-/psychedelisches industrial Art Rock Konzept mit stark verzerrten Gitarren, monotonen Beats und aufwendigen Bassläufen. Der erste Track klingt ein bisschen nach ultraverzerrter Lounge-Musik und lässt das Herz eines experimentellen Musikgeniessers höher schlagen. Masske scheinen schliesslich einen ganz eigenen Stil zu haben, der nur wenig Spielraum für Anlehnungen an Bekanntere bietet. Ein Beispiel könnte hier vielleicht Tortoise sein, Masske klingt jedoch noch einen Grad authentischer, echter.

Beginnend mit Shuttles wird genau diese Industrial-Atmosphäre hergestellt, gleichzeitig diese Unschuld, die wir schon von Bands wie Jesu kennen. Masske vermag es jedoch, ohne Gesang konstant gutes Niveau und fesselnde Lines zu kreieren.

Behind Broken Glass ist der zweite Song, der recht episch und kraftvoll beginnt, mit noch mehr Verzerrung überzeugt, hier nun auch auf dem Bass angewendete Distortion. Krasser Wechsel , dann nach knapp einer Minute, der Song scheint wieder in Richtung Jesu zu gehen, Sekunden später der erneute Ausbruch in düstere Industrial-Momente mit ebenfalls recht monotonen Beats und packenden Bassläufen. Klingt jetzt wie eine überlange Bridge.

Der Titeltrack ist dann schon eher wieder so eine Art Industrial Lounge Rock, oder wie man das nennen will. Wunderschön entspannender Track mit verzerrter Bassline. Nach 50 Sekunden ist die Lounge Atmosphäre weggeblasen und der Track wird schwerer, mit der allerdings gleichbleibenden Melodie. Wunderbarer Track.

Where the Wolves are beginnt schon sehr experimentell und recht ruhig mit den konstanten Elektrobeats. Feine Gitarrensoli führen in eine erneut härtere, rauhere Welt. Die Tatsache, dass Paper Robots eine rein instrumentale EP ist, macht das ganze noch ein bisschen psychedelischer und auch faszinierender.

Mit Paper Robots ist Masske eine EP gelungen, die wahrlich Charakter hat. Paper Robots weiss in jeder Hinsicht zu überzeugen und langweilt überhaupt nicht, und das ohne grossartige Gitarrensoli, komplexe Beats und so weiter. Daumen hoch, weiter so!

Masske, again an experimental band found on WiseOwlRecords, is an experimental-/psychedelic industrial art rock concept with strong distorted guitars, monotonous beats and exciting basslines. The first track sounds a bit like ultra-distorted lounge-music and lets beat the heart of each fan of experimental music. Masske seem to have a very own style, that leaves few playroom for similarities to well-known bands. An example of one could be Tortoise, but Masske sounds more authentic, truer.

Starting with Shuttles, this industrial atmosphere is being produced, at the same time the feeling of innocence that we already know from bands like Jesu. Though Masske is able to create catchy lines without vocals on a constant high niveau.

Behind Broken Glass is the seconds song, which starts kind of epic and strong, with even more distortion, also on the bass. Strong change at about one minute, the song seems to go more into the direction of Jesu, seconds later another outbreak into dark industrial moments with monotonous beats and catchy basslines as well. That sounds now like a damn long bridge.

The title track is more like industrial lounge rock or what you would like to call it. Wonderful chilling track with distorted bassline. After 50 seconds, the lounge atmosphere drops dead and the track gets heavier, with the same melody though. Wonderful track as well.

Where the Wolves are starts more experimental and pretty calm with these monotonous drumbeats again. Finest guitar solos lead to a heavier, rawer world again. The fact that Paper Robots is a pure instrumental EP makes the whole thing even more psychedelic but also exciting.

With Paper Robots, Masske created an EP that is very delicious and has got a lot of character. Paper Robots knows how to get you along and does not bore anytime you listen to – though it does not have a lot of awesome guitar solos, no complex drumbeats neither other stuff that makes a usual rock CD good (Since this is not usual rock!). Thumbs up, carry on!

Crawl Back In - Hang All Hope From The Nearest Tree (2009)

Das Cover erinnert ein bisschen an Black-Metal, oder? Bis auf eine unheimlich düstere Grundstimmung und die ein oder andere Gesangspassage haben die beiden aber nichts miteinander zu tun. Bei Crawl Back In handelt es sich nämlich eigentlich um eine Sludge-Band erster Güte... wenn man aber ihre Myspace-Seite betrachtet findet man dort Freunde wie Nachtmystium und Wolves In The Throne Room.

Die drei Tracks auf dieser EP sind brutal und ziemlich düster, also genau das Richtige für all jene, die auch Gefallen an Bands wie Celeste finden. Mein persönliches Highlight auf diesem Release ist das 10 minütige, sehr athmosphärische Amid Laughter Let Us Perish, in dem Crawl Back In nochmal alle Register ihres Könnens ziehen. Hört euch das Ding mal an Leute!

That cover looks a little bit like Black Metal, doesn't it? But other than a morbid feel and some black-metalesque vocals, this release doesn't have anything to do with Black Metal, I can assure you. Crawl Back In do create their own special brand of Sludge on ths record... and you can understand those Black-Metalesque parts when you hit their Myspace page and look at their friends, where you can find bands like Nachtmystium and Wolves In The Throne Room.

The three tracks on this EP are someting fierce and really bleak and they are definitely for everybody who likes bands like Celeste. My personal favorite on this record is the 10 minute long Amid Laughter Let Us Perish, where Crawl Back In unite all their different styles into one giant downer. Guys, you should definitely give this record a try!

Vollendetes Glück!

Ist das nicht das wonach ein Jeder strebt? Wo suchen die Leute von heutzutage danach? Geld? Karriere? Ruhm?

Alles vergänglich. Klar macht es glücklich, nur wie lange? Ist es das wert? Was nützt mir Geld, wenn ich Niemanden habe mit dem ich es teilen kann? Was nützt mir Karriere, wenn ich nicht stolz darauf sein kann? Was nützt mir Ruhm, wenn ich mich nicht mehr auf mich selbst besinnen kann? Mein Individuum in den Hintergrund dränge...

Snowmobile sagt, es kommt auf die simplen Werte des Lebens an. Die Songs auf diesem Album sind so einfach gestrickt wie auch das Leben sein sollte. Die Schönheit die sich daraus ergibt muss man nur erkennen können. Benötigt wird dafür nur etwas Zeit um seine Ansichten zu ändern, seine Position zu ändern. 100 Years? Und wenn schon! Wenn man schlussendlich zurückblicken und sagen kann „Mein Leben war voller Glück!“ war dies das größte Geschenk das man erhalten konnte.

Aber warum sollte man so lange warten? Genießt euer Glück jetzt!

All of that is ephermal. It definitely makes happy but for how long? Is it worth it? What's the use of monetary if i can’t share it with anyone? What's the use of carreer if i can’t be proud of it? What’s the use of glorious if i can’t bethink of myself anymore? Pressuring myself into the backdrop...

Snowmobile says that the simple values of life count. The songs on this release are so simple as the life should be. You only have to detect the prettiness resulting from it. Time is required.
