Doomina - March On, Dead Man (2008)

Wüstensand in Kärnten, dem südlichsten Bundesland Österreichs? Wer hätte das gedacht? Vier junge Herren aus Völkermarkt machen dies möglich, nämlich: Daniel, Michael, Christian und Thomas. Mit einer gesunden Mischung aus Sludge und Stoner Rock haben Doomina auf ihrem zweiten Demo „March On, Dead Man“, in Form von vier Songs, einen sehr schmackhaften Cocktail am Start. Dies zeigt sich schon beim ersten Track „El Magneto“, einem gnadenlosen Stampfer. Fast schon jazzig beschwingt beginnt „Psychotron“, solche Töne hätte man sich nicht unbedingt erwartet. Wunderbar atmosphärisch gleiten sie dahin, bevor sich dichte Gitarrenwände erheben. Die zweite Hälfte der Demo unterscheidet sich da schon sehr von der Ersten. Das mag einerseits daran liegen, dass die ersten beiden Songs älter sind, als die beiden Anderen und andererseits auch an der stilistischen Weiterentwicklung der Band. Die Songs sind mindestens doppelt, und bis zu drei Mal so lang und sie klingen überlegter, ausgereifter und frischer. Bei „March On, Dead Man | Hypersonorous“ und „Morbus Sacer | In The Absence Of God“ wird der Stoner Rock etwas zurück geschalten und Post Rock tritt mehr in den Vordergrund. Ich muss sagen, die beiden Songs sind mir wirklich sehr ans Herz gewachsen und sie lassen auf mehr hoffen. Super, Burschen!

Desert sand in Carinthia, the most southern state of Austria? How’s that even possible? Four young gentlemen from Völkermarkt make this possible: Daniel, Michael, Christian und Thomas. Doomina is presenting themselves with a healthy mixture of Sludge and Stoner Rock on their second demo „March on, Dead Man“. A very tasty four track sound cocktail. The first track „El Magneto“ shows itself as a merciless steam roller. Nearly jazzy and swinging is the beginning of „Psychotron“, I wouldn’t have expected such tunes. They’re sliding marvellously atmospheric, before close guitar walls rise. The second half of the demo differs pretty much from the first. That may be on the one hand, because the first two songs are older, as the other two and on the other hand, because of the band’s stylistic advancement. The songs are at least double, and up to three times so long and they sound considerate, matured and more fresh. „March On, Dead Man | Hypersonorous“ and „Morbus Sacer | In The Absence Of God“ have less Stoner Rock and more Post Rock influences. I have to say, that both songs really got into my heart and it leaves me there hoping for more. Super, guys!
