Somber Light - Akira (2011)

Quote: Somber Light ist ein Instrumental-Trio aus Verona (Italien) . Die Band wurde im November 2008 vom Gitarristen Carlo Polo gegründet, die endgültige Zusammensetzung der Band war in Januar 2009 mit dem Eintritt von dem Schlagzeugspieler Domenico Carnevale gefunden worden. Aufgenommen im Sommer 2010 in ihrem Proberaum, ist Akira ihr erstes Album:

7 instrumentale Tracks zwischen Rauschen aus dem Hintergrund und überraschenden Musiklandschaften, beeinflusst von Explosions in the Sky, Red Sparowes und dem alten japanischen Kino. Der Name “Akira” ist dabei eine Huldigung des Regisseurs Akira Kurosawa.

Echoes from Jupiter - Europa (2010)

Von Québec aus veröffentlichten Echoes from Jupiter im vergangenen Jahr - nach der 4 Track EP Io - das Album Europa. Dessen beachtliche Tracklist von 15 Songs, verteilt über gut eine Stunde besteht aus Shoegazigen Gitarrentracks mit deutlichen Post-Rock Einflüssen, welche immer wieder von experimentellen, kürzeren Stücken unterbrochen werden.

Wenn's dann richtig kracht, wie etwa im Mittelteil des Tracks Floating Neighbors, und verzerrte Screams über einem Brett von Gitarren-, Bass- und Drumssounds thronen, kann wohl niemand mehr widerstehen, wuchtig im Takt mit zu nicken. Diese Stärke spielt ebenso der Titeltrack des Albums aus, Gespür für tolle Gesangsmelodien in den härteren Teilen des Albums und ruhigere Passagen wechseln gekonnt einander ab, sodass am Ende des Albums nur der eine Wunsch ensteht: Gleich nochmal von vorn!

Hailing from Quebéc, Echoes from Jupiter released the album Europa last year after their 4 track EP Io. Europa's impressive tracklist of 15 songs clocking in at over an hour, consists of shoegazy guitar tracks with a notable post-rock feel, consistently interrupted by more experimental, shorter songs.

When the albums fully blasts however, like in the middle section of the song Floating Neighbors and distorted screams throne above a wall of guitar-, bass- and drumsounds, nobody is able to resist to bang their head to the music. The title track utilizes that said strenght just as well, the band's keen sense of putting great vocal melodies above the louder parts of the album and more quiet sections take turns, so that at the end of the album only one wish is formed: to play it all over again!

Fourteen Twentysix - Lighttown Closure (2010)

Fourteen Twentysix aus den Niederlanden ist mit Lighttown Closure ein großartiges Album gelungen, das gekonnt dunkle Einflüsse wie Anathema, Pink Floyd, NIN und Chroma Key mit einer Portion Mut zu popigeren Passagen verbindet.
Zwischen akustischen Gitarren, starken Bassläufen und groovigem Drumming schwirrt Chris van der Lindens unvergessliche Stimme umher, taucht dabei gelegentlich in ambienten und elektronischen Teilen unter, nur um kurz darauf mit voller Melancholie zurückzuschlagen.

With Lighttown Closure Fourteen Twentysix from the Netherlands created an outstanding album, which mixes the band's darker influences like Anathema, Pink Floyd, NIN and Chroma Key skillfully with a dose of courage to implement poppy parts.
Between acoustic guitars, strong basslines and groovy drumming Chris van der Linden's unforgettable voice hovers around, consequently submerging in ambient parts and their electronic feel, just to fight back with total melancholy shortly afterwards.
