Impulsive toms jump into the fray and start the newest mini-album by Anon, They move dramatically and imposingly. Captivated by inflaming piano-melodies, accompanied by drum-hits which return time and time again, one can not expect a breather. Craig Broad, who heads the burnthenation netlabel, besides his musical project, won't let his listener's come to a rest. The second songs is aswell characterized with piano work, which one might know from creepy ego-shooter games. The third track, however, offers the well-earned rest. Anon, They Move concentrates on the bottom of his sound, the ambient-soundscapes are interrupted by 80s Synthesizer Toms and piano only shortly, until faint-hearted vocals are brought to light. Contrary to the previous songs, the atmosphere of the fourth track is a little more uplifting. The jaunty piano is dancing along, a cello-sounding synthesizer sweetens the mood with bright melodies. Tracks "7" and "3" act in a similar way. Only, the Cellosizer is replaced by panpipes and glockenspiel. In the last song, number 1, the already missed toms reappear. The english-man tries to make his compositions sound orchestrally and mightfully. With a little less cheesy sounding VST instruments he would accomplish that impressingly.
Even if sound- and instruments-wise the choices have not been made perfectly yet, The Passing Of A Spy Glass is an album, which waits on the listener with loads of great moments. Full of creative ideas and the perfect mixture of sadness and optimism Craig Broad drafted a work, which will keep the listener coming back again and again.
