La Biblioteca Deserta - Travelling Without Gravity (2010)

Quote: "La Biblioteca Deserta is a cathedral of emotions, where sound and silence come to life, originated by phantom words. The musical project starts during 2006, when five young composers (all born between 1986 and 1988) unite, glued together by their will to communicate through music.

These are the premises for their brave choice to venture into an instrumental post-rock, which combines Mediterranean sounds with North European atmospheres (eg. Mogwai, Sigur Ròs, Muse, Coldplay), heading towards a very dynamic experience, sumptuous crescendos and mighty explosions.

The band soon delivers their first efforts, which are met by both critical success and positive feedback by the general public, with several positive reviews on various specialized music web magazines, all around the world (as far as Japan and China). Constant live touring helps to band to perform in many important venues all around Italy, supporting various national and international artists, such as Marta sui Tubi, Ministri, APSE, Eric Chenaux. They also take part in many important music contests and festivals: Festa Europea Della Musica, Souni a sud-est (vincitori nell’edizione 2008), Planet of Sound, Biennale Dei Giovan i Artisti Europei, Laguna Street Festival, Saint Rock Festival, Music Festa, MEI, Italia Wave, Tour Music Fest, Fiera Della Musica, Cime Di Rock, No Day.

After being noticed by the music magazine "Rock Star", which features their song "Dalla Terra alla Luna" in their November 2009 issue, together with works from other important artists such as Teatro degli Orrori, Dente, Le Luci della Centrale El ettrica and many other indie acts, the band issues their first full length album, "Travelling without gravity", produced by the independent record label Faro Records, released on December 21st, 2009. The album has been mixed at Itaca Recording Studios by Mirko Patella, who has worked for Amari, La Fame di Camilla, Leitmotiv.

Brothers and founders Jud and Joe Norman inherited their love of music from their father and uncle, the former introducing them to the Beatles and buying them their first guitars, and the latter, from Los Angeles, mailing them shoe boxes full of CDs they’d never heard by bands like The Kinks, Pavement, and Velvet Underground.

Although all four members of Research Turtles were born in Lake Charles, even graduating St. Louis High School just a few years apart, they didn’t unite as musicians until lead singer Jud returned to Lake Charles after graduating from Louisiana State University. Itching to make some noise, he and his younger brother, Joe, grabbed the best musicians they knew—their best friends, Logan Fontenot and Blake Thibodeaux—and with Jud’s creative vision guiding the band, they united under the name “Research Turtles”. Soon, they were opening for headlining bands like Toad the Wet Sprocket and making waves at the famed Tipitina’s in New Orleans, LA.

Research Turtles' self-titled debut album was recorded at the legendary Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana and produced by Justin Tocket (Marc Broussard, Sons of William). The album unites the band’s southern roots with their diverse influences, creating a sound that’s part clean, sweetly polyphonic pop and part aggressive retro-rock. As Bob Segarnini of Sirius Satellite Radio recognized,

'From the Everly Brothers, through the British Invasion, into the New Wave, the punk era Ramones, and the Neil Young / Nirvana / Foo Fighters grunge guitars, these guys, like all great artists, are a product of their love of music, honoring the past, and being able to bring something new to the table.'

Today, I'm going to present to you two fantastic little EPs recorded by Taiga Blues from Glasgow, Scotland. What began as a side project is now a thriving project, that helps making ideas and songs come to life that would not be able to be concieved in recording sessions with Carstens other project. A very experimental mix of electronica, jazz and post-rock, that's just what I need for these first summer days. Carsten Mandt, Tim Craig and Michael Gallagher just know how to compose and play smooth, relaxed songs that lighten your mood and make you smile.

I don't want to tell you too much about the music, because that might spoil the surprise. I can only urge you guys to listen to that stuff, it is definitely Grade A material. Two thumbs up for these guys from Glasgow!

Dichotomy Engine - One's Silence... (2009)

Bio:
Dichotomy Engine is solo/side project of Drazen Djordjevic from Serbia. Influenced by the sound of many noise underground, electro bands and musicians like Wumpscut, Vangelis, Raison d'être, J.M. Jarre, Mike Oldfield, Stratvm Terror, Necrophorus etc. Drazen starts to experiment with this electro sound at the end of year 2007. The main idea is of Dichotomy Engine to explore darker electronic sounds and all the possibilites to transpose the emotions through that kind of music. In the beginning it started like an experiment and hobby, so there were no plans for further work.

But as time passed by many his work gained good reviews in the underground circles. So Drazen continues with work on new music mixing different genres. DE songs have this so called “movie soundtrack” sound because of combination that involves electronic music, many sound effects, noises and dialogues from movies. Dichotomy Engine is always working and exploring many ways to record and play with different ideas, music and noises. He is also involved in Serbian underground music and artistic scene supporting it and performing live.
