Gordon's Tsunami Week - A Place For Nowhere (EP) (2007) & Bonus Demos

In der Zeitschrift "VISIONS" erst kürzlich zum Demo des Monats gekürt worden. Sechs Münchener und die Freiheit ihrer Instrumente. Oder: bajuwarischer Postrock. Was kommt nach Postrock? Noch zumindest: Postrock! Und das mit steigender Qualität. Bedanken können wir uns bei den Genre-Vorreitern und -Größen wie Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mono oder Sigur Rós. Denn ihre Pionierarbeit trägt reife Früchte. Auch hierzulande treten nach und nach Bands mit ihren Klangfeldern ans Tageslicht. Ein besonders gutes Beispiel: Gordon’s Tsunami Week. Auch die sechs Münchener haben das Rad nicht neu erfunden, aber warum auch, wenn’s so rund läuft. Auf ihrer Demo-EP "A Place For Nowhere" vereinen sie die Tragweite von Explosions In The Sky, die Melodieseligkeit Mogwais und die Wucht von Isis. Doch bis man die im Bandnamen verankerte Gewaltigkeit zu spüren bekommt, muss man geduldig sein. Die EP beginnt fast andächtig; als würde man mit Morgentau beträufelten Pflanzen beim Wachsen zusehen. Die dennoch nicht von der Hand zu weisende Bedrohlichkeit mutiert erst im dritten Song überraschend zu einer erbarmungslosen Wasserwelle. Doch Gordon's Tsunami Week geben das Ruder nicht aus der Hand, sondern beherrschen das Spiel zwischen schwerelosen Melodien und ausufernden Gitarrenwänden gekonnt. Beeindruckende 23 Minuten, denen eine Flut von Begeisterung folgen müsste. Noch dazu kommen in diesem Paket alle umlaufenden Demos, die im Vorfeld schon viel auf das nächste Release schließen lassen.

Ich hab GTW jetzt 3mal live gesehen. Einmal als Vorband von den "Steaming Satellites" mit "Driveby", einmal als Vorband von "ef" und einmal bei unsrem Festival in Innsbruck mit This will destroy you/Mom/Caspian/Stellardrive/con_form/Ayefore und jedes Mal war ich sowas von beeindruckt von ihrer Livedarbietung. Nicht umsonst haben sie in unserem Blog die MEISTEN DOWNLOADS!

Recently voted for the „demo of the month“ in the magazine „VISIONS“. Six munich musicians and the freedom of their instruments. Or: Bavarian PostRock. What appears after the PostRock? At least: PostRock! With rising quality. You have to thank genre-precursors and giants like Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mono or Sigur Rós. Because their pioneer work is carrying ripe fruits. Bit by bit bands with their sound fields are coming into the daylight in this country as well. An especially good example: Gordon’s Tsunami Week. The six munich musicians did not reinvent the wheel newly but why do they have to?? It’s working fine so far. On their Demo-EP "A Place For Nowhere" Gordon’s Tsunami Week are combining the range of Explosions In The Sky, tunes of mogwai and the impact of Isis. However you have to be patient till you can feel the immenseness that is fixed in their bandname. The Ep is beginning nearly devotional; as if you would look at with morningthaw dripped plants growing. Nevertheless the threat is mutating astonishingly to a merciless billow at the third Track. However GTW don’t give the rudder out of the hand and handle the game between weightless melodies and overflowing guitarwalls skillfully. Impressive 23 minutes on which a flood of ecstasy has to be followed. In this package the rotating demos are included which suggest on another soon released output.

I saw GTW live three times so far. Once as the guest of „Steaming Satellites“ with „Driveby“, once as guest of „ef“ and once at our festival in Innsbruck with This will destroy you/Mom/Caspian/Stellardrive/con_form/Ayefore and every time i was completely impressed of their live-performance. By the way, they have the MOST DOWNLOADS in this blog!
