pq - Louise on Earth (7'')

Somewhere in the middle between ambient, acoustic rock, electronic and modern classical music there are pq . This 7'' has two very calm, relaxing tracks on it, Louise on Earth and Countdown To Elise. If you are in the right mood, both of those tracks can send shivers down your spine and both tracks are only a taste of what pq, hailing from Bruges, Belgium, have to offer. They have also finished recording their debut album which was set for release on Expanding Records in 2009 but has not yet come out.

Until then, you are left with two beautiful little tunes that I definitely urge you to listen to.

Our Ceasing Voice - Passenger Killed in Hit and Run (Single) (2010)

Tigertronic - Potomac Winter Sessions EP (2010)

Quote:"He used to be a good man. He believed that people were inherently good. His resolve had slowly chipped away, day by day, week by week, year by year, until one day he found himself filled with the spite that he was so desperately fighting. Beware the thing that you fight, that you do not become what you are fighting. With bitterness on one side, and naivete on the other, a tightrope emerged. Balance. "

King Sigh - Entering (2009)

Now that summer is just around the bend I have one fantastic summer record for all of you out there: King Sigh's debut Entering is a feel-good alternative-post rock-electronic mix that, if our world was perfect, would be the stuff that was playing on the radio instead of the 100th copy of an imitation. This record is truly original and a lot of fun to listen to.

Hailing from Scherpenheuvel, Belgium, Peter Laermans and Zowie Vangeel (back then there were two, now there are four of them) decided to do some homerecordings and as a result they released this little gem that has been playing a lot at my working place for the last one and a half months to make sure I'm always in a good mood. So, I guess it's time to say thanks to those guys by saying:

This record is truly amazing and I hope that everybody visiting here is going to listen to it and hopefully will like it as much as I do. Thank you guys and keep on making such wonderful music.

PS: I'm very tired right now, so excuse the missing German review, but as a summery for all my fellow Germans:

Betrayal At Bespin - Diary Of A Dead Man Walking (2009)

Bei Betrayal At Bespin musste ich zuerst an was denken? Mal sehen. Zuerst zum Artwork von "Diary of a Dead Man Walking".

___________________________________________________________

Reading the name Betrayal At Bespin my first thought was what? Sure, Star Wars. Why does a band call themselves like this? Will it be like in Star Wars a betrayal with a happy ending? We'll see.

First, the artwork of "Diary of a Dead Man Walking" is extreme elaborately decorated and gives you the kind of feeling you get while playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Someone put a whole lot of effort in this artwork, very nice!

The sound:
The intro seems a bit depressing and dark and you can already guess what is brewing on the Horizon. This is confirmed when you listen to "Road to Ghost Town". This is where the hard riffing and dark sound spreads to become a huge monster. A real thick sound with biting shouts - which is not everybodys favourite but it really fits. The "Ghost Town" in "Road to Ghost Town" comes out when the acoustic guitars start playing and you feel like being in a lost western city of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. A really great atmosphere starts to build up, great!

The record alternates beautiful melodies, short breaks to take a breath and massive epic riffing. In the epic passages they sometimes remind me of the early Callisto but with a completely different background.

The whole thing is carried by this bleak, post-apocalyptic western style. The band succeeds in building a incredible atmosphere. If you have seen Deadwood - this is the soundtrack to it. They totally catch me when they change between riffing and beautiful acoustic melodies and - thank you guys - they do this often. Even the screaming, which was at the beginning a little strange for me because of the biting sound, fits really perfect and after a few runs i like it.

To make a long story short:
Betrayal At Bespin deliver a thoroughly convincing disk with "Diary of a Dead Man Walking". It could be settled between the early Callisto, Cult of Luna and a more traditional metal influences. If you like these bands try this album i'm sure it'll get you like it got me!

Inkblots Fall Into Place - White Tiger EP (2010)

Hollow Branches - Anchored In Sleep (EP) (2009)

Press release: Hollow Branches, one of the many projects in which Robert Hunter, Marius Sjøli (Formloff, Self Spiller), and Jason Walton (Agalloch, Self Spiller), are involved, have just released their new ep. Thematically inspired by dreams, insomnia, nostalgia and morning, “Anchored in Sleep” finds Hollow Branches expanding their sound with elements of progressive and post rock, as well as glitch. Drawing from a variety of influences including, David Sylvian, Landberk and Porcupine Tree, this ep is perfect for the cold winter days ahead.

Bio: More than 5,000 miles separates the members of Hollow Branches, they have only been in the same room a handful of times, each is in several other bands, and none of this is likely to change. In spite of these obstacles, Hollow Branches has managed to record two EPs in 2009 alone.
With a sound equal parts ambient, rock and trip hop, “Words are Fire” received a digital release in February and was downloaded no less than 500 times. Since that time, five new tracks have been written for their second EP, “Anchored in Sleep.” Thematically inspired by dreams, insomnia, nostalgia and morning, “Anchored in Sleep” finds Hollow Branches expanding their sound with elements of progressive and post rock, as well as glitch.

Pharoty - [Trapped] (EP) (2010)

THE MUSIC: Tasty riffs, exciting melodies and hypnotically grooving rhythms – these are the key ingredients not only of compelling rock music in general but of pharoty in particular.

The creative spectrum of this Tyrolean four-piece includes genuine groove monsters that will leave club audiences around the world breathless and dripping with sweat, as well as new anthemic treasures of alternative rock that build up throughout melodic verses and explode into emotionally charged choruses you will find hard to get out of your head. This skilful combination of acoustic and distorted parts is a trademark of this innovative and eclectic group. Their diversity is rounded off by a purely acoustic track that will send shivers down the listeners’ spines – whether it may be at a huge festival or at a campfire session. However, the catchy nature of all their tunes results in a constantly high sing-along factor!

It is difficult to pigeonhole the music of pharoty since they coquettishly flirt with various different greats of the contemporary music scene: Green Day meet Placebo and Nickelback meet Sunrise Avenue, plus: they never neglect their love for Chili Peppers-inspired Funk rock! To cut a long story short: pharoty offer a rich and independent mix of the newest and freshest developments in rock music and have plenty of potential hit material.

THE BAND: The band members were all students at the same school when they founded pharoty in 2003. In the very beginning, the band was merely more than just a creative outlet for two brothers and their friends to pass rainy Saturday afternoons. However, as time went on, their approach intensified as they became increasingly passionate about their project. They soon hit the stages of many rock clubs as well as regional outdoor-events. Their growing live-experience made them grow tighter as a musical unit as they went on from being a cover band to a group that strongly relies on its original material and constantly refines and develops its irresistible sound.

Time has come for them to drop their early cover songs, which have been a useful guide to songwriting in the past, in order to climb over the intimidating mountain peaks of the Tyrol with their debut-EP “Trapped” and to continue their journey into the wide world of rock.

Our Subatomic Earth - Underscore (2010)

Release text: "The Earth is on fire. I cry out to you from my state of weakness, where the slate crumbles beneath the flesh, leaving a void, hollowed shell like that of a distant crustacean. I cry out to you, wherever your bunker lies beneath this unyielding earth, safe from the distorted, abstract woes of supreme mortal justice. Whether you are heavenly man, heavenly woman, or of absolute sin as I am in essence, I cry out to you. The Earth is on fire.

The Earth is on fire, but nothing is smoking. The incessant immolation sears not at the hearts, but the souls of the grieving, whose pleads fall upon a deaf congregation. Though they have ears, they are not listeners; rather, they do when told like negligent drones. Whether they own computers, televisions, or even car stereos, they are not listeners, and nothing is smoking.

What is smoke, but a visible consequence, merely appearing after the damage is done? What then is fire, but a chemical process, smoldering bodies to carbonaceous debris? The Earth is on fire, and nothing is smoking yet.

In every dispute, they followed God's intent. When you were an infant, they gave the world weapons; when you were eleven, they went to the desert; when you could gamble, they went back again; and today your country, sweet land of misery, looked to the serpentines and left you to drown.

The Earth is on fire, and it is smoking; you were just too indoctrinated to see."

IMPORTANT News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi mates!

We are sorry for being in absentia. We have so much to do right now that it is not possible to review and post your stuff. We have loads of requests in our mail and even can't answer those. Please forgive us! I guess we have over 400 requests not done at this moment and we really want to have all these requests done.

So, our offer is for all those bands and projects that hasn't been posted so far -> send us your stuff again with the subject "PLEASE POST IT" and with a little presstext (Who are you? What motivates you to make this tunes? A little bio, or whatever, just write what you want...) and we will post it with your textmessage as soon as we can!!! I don't know what you will think about this idea to get this problem solved but if you dig it rate this post with 5 stars.

Thanks for the audience,
ChrisO & Co

PS.: We really need a good package of your songs. That means the mp3s should be in high quality, (no transcodes) and right tagged. A front-cover at least with 500x500, myspace and lastfm link and the genre you are into should be included too. Zip or Rar it and only upload it to megaupload or rapidshare (really important)! Otherwise we will delete the package and ignore it!

PPS.: It would also be less work if you upload a previewsong of the release to divshare and send us the link or (if it's availaible for download on lastfm) the direct mp3-link. This should be a link like this "http://freedownloads.last.fm/download/313925622/Highway%2BLights.mp3"

Have A Nice Life - Time Of Land (EP) (2010)

Quote: "About Time of Land by HAVE A NICE LIFE
Time of Land is the name of an E.P. we kind of fell into while working on our next full-length album. It was sold in physical form only once: at our first show ever, at The Stone in NYC. About 50 tapes were sold that night.

Now, the E.P. is available for free to everyone who couldn't make it to the show, in digital form. Thank you very much, to everyone, for your continued and completely overwhelming support for us, our label, and our music. It is deeply, deeply appreciated.

If You Would Like To Support The Band Or Know More
www.enemieslist.net is our self-run, self-financed record label. We put out records by bands that record themselves. We think the music is really, really good. Check out the stuff we have available. Sign up for our very-sporadic newsletter. We think you'll probably like it.

In conclusion: Please download the record. Send it to your friends. Post it places. Review it. Tell us what you think.

Thanks,
